TESTING TESTING - Is anyone out there?
I'm doing a newsletter.
Today I went to the launch of ScreenX at Event Innaloo in Western Australia and it’s triggered me to start a newsletter series becuase I have a film, Proclivitas, coming to Australian cinemas in early 2026. (Feb 19 actuatlly!)
It’s not playing on a ScreenX screen - I wish we had that kind of budget film - but one day I’ll have a film playing in here or imax.
For an independent producer like me, the path to formats like ScreenX start with my films strong performances in more normal cinema.
If Australian films can prove they can pull audiences in, then we get more opportunities to make work at a bigger scale.
So I’m starting a series about what it takes to get an Australian film in Cinemas, using my journey with Proclivitas.
I’m going to look at the technical sides and the marketing side like actually getting people to watch in cinemas.
I’m committing to doing this even though being on camera makes me want to vomit because Australian stories deserve to be seen on Australian screens and the system isn’t built for filmmakers like me.
It’s built for the studios, for the safe bets, for the films that have a marketing drinks budget bigger than our entire production.
So if you believe that the entertaining bold and exciting films we watch on screens should include reflecting the country we actually live in — stick with me. I think you’ll get something out of this!
This series isn’t just about my film - although a lot will be — it’s about visibility, access, and keeping Australian screen culture alive.
Please send this off to people you think might be interested.
And you can follow @proclivitas.movie and my company @lakemartinfilms on the socials!
Let’s go – I’ll see you at the cinema.
